(Almost) Daily Rant
The Internet has become increasingly popular over the last few years, thus in turn destroying the English language. The culprit is online posting. Those who decided to take it upon themselves and post their highly-developed thoughts following an article seem to forget all grammar and spelling rules. Don’t get me wrong, people don’t need to be perfect– very few people can honestly claim to be proficient in all areas of grammar– but you should still be able to remember the basics; such as: punctuation and capitalization. Come on people! As far as spelling is concerned, use what technology has given you– SPELL CHECKER! Also, many programs offer a basic grammar checker (you may want to check it out– just a thought).
Another unfortunate side-effect of online posting is the abbreviation of words. LOL, OMG, blah, blah, yada, yada….. What is wrong with you people? Though, in all seriousness, I understand why some may choose to abbreviate– if you attempted to type the words out, it would be an even bigger disaster. Think Category 5 disaster!
Stop butchering the English language and if at all possible remember the basics. If you are going to take the time to post, at least communicate your thought clearly so that others don’t have to take it upon themselves to piece together your juxtaposed garbage.
Just imagine what will happen if it becomes our daily spoken language? Although I did hear some little girls saying “OMG” the other day at Walmart. Don’t care much for that myself. There arn’t that many things at 13 and 14 years of age that you can say “OMG” that adults would agree with. I guess lack of real life experience could have something to do with it. Kids will be kids, I guess. Good post though! Look forward to your next rant. By the way (BTW), you still owe us chicken!
