Annoying Computer Games

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Why is the computer game Solitaire soooooooo addicting?  When you’re bored and you have already gone through the usual Internet routine, you twirl around in your comfy computer chair trying in earnest to find something stimulating to do.  Then you sit and stare at the computer.  And stare some more.  Then you depend on the last resort– solitaire.

Personally, I don’t like the game, largely due to the fact that I can’t beat it very often.  Maybe once in fifty tries (that figure might actually be higher)!  I’ll make a few moves and then I am forced to click the “deal” button in defeat.

Also, I think solitaire is the official game for insomniacs.  Nothing on television?  Don’t worry!  Get on the computer and play a game of solitaire.  I also believe that if you play it repeatedly for half an hour, it will put you to sleep.

Solitaire is on probably every computer– ready and waiting for some poor bored sap to play.  I will admit that I like the crazy card thing that happens when you win!  And if you are in the mood for an even more irritating version of the game, you should try Spider Solitaire!  The reward is fireworks if you win!

Solitaire: the game you love to hate!

(Almost) Daily Rant

The Internet has become increasingly popular over the last few years, thus in turn destroying the English language. The culprit is online posting. Those who decided to take it upon themselves and post their highly-developed thoughts following an article seem to forget all grammar and spelling rules. Don’t get me wrong, people don’t need to be perfect– very few people can honestly claim to be proficient in all areas of grammar– but you should still be able to remember the basics; such as: punctuation and capitalization. Come on people! As far as spelling is concerned, use what technology has given you– SPELL CHECKER!  Also, many programs offer a basic grammar checker (you may want to check it out– just a thought).

Another unfortunate side-effect of online posting is the abbreviation of words. LOL, OMG, blah, blah, yada, yada….. What is wrong with you people? Though, in all seriousness, I understand why some may choose to abbreviate– if you attempted to type the words out, it would be an even bigger disaster. Think Category 5 disaster!

Stop butchering the English language and if at all possible remember the basics. If you are going to take the time to post, at least communicate your thought clearly so that others don’t have to take it upon themselves to piece together your juxtaposed garbage.

A Good Book

Hello!

The last book I read was Dracula, by Bram Stoker. A great book that every vampire-lover should read. Stoker created this dark creature of the night in 1897 and it continues to haunt our nightmares. This book is written from several characters view points (including Van Helsing, Jonathan Harker…) and makes for an interesting read. The story of Dracula is told through diary and journal entries, telegraph posts, and newspaper articles which makes for a different reading experience.

A classic that everybody should read! Especially at night…
