ROAD TRIP!!!

July 10th, 2009

With the passing of the July 4th holiday, numerous American’s trekked across our great country. People traveled by plane, car, train, or by some other various form of transportation. A common dilemma experienced by travelers is having the unfortunate pleasure of sitting next to that one person that no one wants to be stuck next to.

Proudly, I declare that it is my mission when traveling in the small confines of the minivan, to be that person. It is hard work, but somebody has to do it. When going on a vacation or small trip, I know just what to do to keep it real.

Firstly, talk and talk and talk and talk. This is a sure way to drive people nuts! Talk about anything…or nothing at all! Doesn’t matter, just talk.

Secondly, sing with the radio. It doesn’t matter if you know the words- improvise! That makes for some fun- show casing your creative ability, as well as driving your fellow passengers crazy!

A personal favorite activity is the calling out of license plates. I can point out a Florida orange, Georgia peach, the red, white and blue of an Ohio plate, and the Palm tree found on a South Carolina plate faster than anyone! After a while, passengers get tired of this constant naming and they are prone to become irritated.

You know that you have accomplished your job when people are constantly playing popcorn in the vehicle, changing seats- front to back and any other possible way to escape from the annoying wrath brought down by yours truly. Another positive sign is the endless laughter that is associated with this type of behavior.

The only bad thing that could happen to the annoying person is mutiny on the open road. By this I mean getting left at a McDonald’s.

When traveling this summer, have fun and if you are that dreaded person that nobody wishes to sit next to, live it up to the fullest. Embrace your role and get the job done! I know I do!

Annoying Computer Games

June 26th, 2009

Why is the computer game Solitaire soooooooo addicting?  When you’re bored and you have already gone through the usual Internet routine, you twirl around in your comfy computer chair trying in earnest to find something stimulating to do.  Then you sit and stare at the computer.  And stare some more.  Then you depend on the last resort– solitaire.

Personally, I don’t like the game, largely due to the fact that I can’t beat it very often.  Maybe once in fifty tries (that figure might actually be higher)!  I’ll make a few moves and then I am forced to click the “deal” button in defeat.

Also, I think solitaire is the official game for insomniacs.  Nothing on television?  Don’t worry!  Get on the computer and play a game of solitaire.  I also believe that if you play it repeatedly for half an hour, it will put you to sleep.

Solitaire is on probably every computer– ready and waiting for some poor bored sap to play.  I will admit that I like the crazy card thing that happens when you win!  And if you are in the mood for an even more irritating version of the game, you should try Spider Solitaire!  The reward is fireworks if you win!

Solitaire: the game you love to hate!

(Almost) Daily Rant

June 18th, 2009

The Internet has become increasingly popular over the last few years, thus in turn destroying the English language. The culprit is online posting. Those who decided to take it upon themselves and post their highly-developed thoughts following an article seem to forget all grammar and spelling rules. Don’t get me wrong, people don’t need to be perfect– very few people can honestly claim to be proficient in all areas of grammar– but you should still be able to remember the basics; such as: punctuation and capitalization. Come on people! As far as spelling is concerned, use what technology has given you– SPELL CHECKER!  Also, many programs offer a basic grammar checker (you may want to check it out– just a thought).

Another unfortunate side-effect of online posting is the abbreviation of words. LOL, OMG, blah, blah, yada, yada….. What is wrong with you people? Though, in all seriousness, I understand why some may choose to abbreviate– if you attempted to type the words out, it would be an even bigger disaster. Think Category 5 disaster!

Stop butchering the English language and if at all possible remember the basics. If you are going to take the time to post, at least communicate your thought clearly so that others don’t have to take it upon themselves to piece together your juxtaposed garbage.

A Good Book

June 14th, 2009

Hello!

The last book I read was Dracula, by Bram Stoker. A great book that every vampire-lover should read. Stoker created this dark creature of the night in 1897 and it continues to haunt our nightmares. This book is written from several characters view points (including Van Helsing, Jonathan Harker…) and makes for an interesting read. The story of Dracula is told through diary and journal entries, telegraph posts, and newspaper articles which makes for a different reading experience.

A classic that everybody should read! Especially at night…
